Gilbert Lee, M.D.
Dr. Lee's education was focused on Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Medicine.
His professional background included primary care Internal Medicine, managing medical offices, owning an independent medical laboratory with multiple satellite offices, owning a medical building and leasing space to numerous clinics, owning a software development company creating an integrated medical practice management software (scheduling, billing, and collections) and electronic medical records. He also managed an Independent Practice Association consisting of 68 physicians in multiple clinics in which there was risk contracting with various health insurance companies. He also was active in leadership positions with the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and various state and national professional organizations.
As president of the American Society of Internal Medicine, Oregon Chapter, he worked on a national level with Senator Bob Packwood (Senator and Chairman Senate Finance Committee) and its staff to write, lobby, and pass significant Medicare Reform legislation. He worked with then-Representative Ron Wyden and his staff on teaching them about the complexities of health care and options for improvements. He worked with then-Senator John Kitzhaber on the topics of using managed care models within the Oregon Health Plan and creating the mechanism of services covered or not covered. As president and CEO of Central Oregon Coast Independent Practice Organization, he helped bring managed care OHP and Medicare Advantage Plans to the Oregon coast.
Between 2000 and 2007, Dr. Lee developed hypertension, congestive heart failure, and peripheral neuropathy diagnosed in 2007 as severe sleep apnea with severe nocturnal hypoxia. On CPAP nightly use, he slowly regained his health. He left medical practice in 2007 as recovery took over two years.
Between 2007 and 2013, Dr. Lee became a caregiver to his aging parents, allowing them to live out their lives in their home of 60+ years. It was a learning experience caring for a father with advanced dementia and a mother overwhelmed by her physical limitations. As executor of their estate, he explored the field of estate financial and legal options available to those entering and into their retirement years.
He is currently working as an independent insurance broker/agent, focusing on the Medicare Health Coverage segment. Given his background, he is committed to seeing that his clients get the best health care insurance coverage for their individual needs and that they utilize that coverage to maximize and preserve their health.
He has developed trusted relationships within the local medical community to act as a Medicare resource and advisor.
He is interested in hiking in the wilderness, working out at the local gym, and mindfully eating a whole food nutrient-dense diet. Other interests involve alpine skiing, writing, reading, researching topics of interest, photography, calligraphy, and developing and maintaining friendships. He has digitally published two books available on Amazon.com titled "Doctor's Survival Guide" and "Mindful Eating: You Are What You Eat."
