Choosing a Medicare Plan
To choose the best Medicare Plan for you, there are several steps you need to take.
Apply with the Social Security Administration (https://secure.ssa.gov/iClaim/rib) and enroll in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. The new Medicare cards do not use one's social security number. Most people will want an Effective Date for the first day of the month of your 65th birthday. Please read the web page "Eligibility for Medicare & Original Medicare." Other people may wish to delay retirement and sign up for Medicare Part A and add Part B at a later date as it has a premium attached to it.
Since you are on the Estate Financial Services website, please Contact Us by email, text message, or phone call. As an independent Medicare health insurance agent, I am more than happy to teach you how Medicare works and your options.
Read the following web pages in this section to learn the basics of Medicare. I also present seminars to groups of people or in the comfort of your own home or via ZOOM.
Gather the names of your doctors and their address and phone numbers. We will need that information to check what plans they are contracted with.
Gather the names of your prescription medications, strength, and frequency of dosing. Each company places medications in different tiers resulting in a different cost analysis.
Look back for the last five years as to your medical health care utilization. The number of PCP doctor visits, Specialist doctor visits, lab tests, Diagnostic imaging tests, Urgent care visits, ER visits, Hospitalizations, Surgeries. All this will help come to a realistic picture for several years to come.
The last web page in this section will detail how to use this information to decide.
